Against Forgetting
a finger tracing vertebrae
rosary beads, penance
a horseshoe over a doorway
bull’s skull on a stucco wall
the smell of cooking
when entering an empty house
a feather in a pocket
a talisman against forgetting
simmer after boil
cool air behind the storm
tiny plums at the farmers market
sweet mouth, dripping with juice
"Against Forgetting" is a failed attempt at staying in the moment. It is a record of the small details we notice, then quickly forget.
