Hillary Martin is a poet from Tennessee who moved to Oakland, California to pursue her MFA in Writing degree at California College of the Arts. Her poetry can be found in West Trade Review and Red Earth Review. She is a recipient of the Leslie Scalapino Poetry Award.

dig out the god in you dormant inside sternum godless ventricles loved her inheriting other forms of kingdoms father determines amount of love willing to slosh inside you —share the recipe * * * this is how you —r nana relearns unconditional attachment exhumes carcass from dejected ground bundles body in devotion this is how you wade into oceans crown intro —ductions * * * this is how you touch with mute hands tumble dry clothesline skin stretch ‘round reproportioned structure this is how you —r mother re —collects formation of cells inside pelvic cavity questions homologous arrangement shook hands with her labia introduction to livingloving this is where god whimpers says you’ve got it all wrong —got the wrong guy says you’ve reached too far inside her he is not there * * * this is how you pin up skin —don’t revisit headstones on thighs no epitaphs but can recall each life span this is how you —r too tiny sister holds your too big body reverse nesting dolls * * * this is how you ask mother may i eat her mother can you remind me of bathing bathtubs and naked this is how you obstruct pharynx horse pills body will expand retract grown with too much ache for honeyed liquid for child|like| symptoms * * * this is how it is decided long enough as not are not quick run and tell your father your mother your god
