Woolsley Fire, 2018
The sun hangs red
weeping color
until it disappears
Sky thick with orange
Golden hour for hours
Everything smudged
like the air is dirty
with fingerprints
The radio loud
enough to hear
anywhere in the house
The baby coughs
all afternoon
I want to think
my work can mean
something
but it’s 10pm now
and the horizon
is lit pink
cheery and common
as a sunrise
