The Morning Joe Biden Declares His 2020 Candidacy

I remember racing in elementary school, our vast public school playground like a vacant lot, its sagging fence buckling in the wind. Standing on the white line, bracing one leg strong and tense, twitching for takeoff, I barely heard the other girls cheering behind me as my ears anticipated Go. Back then, I was one of the only girls who could beat boys. It didn’t last long. I don’t mean that they started beating me. I mean I stopped running.
