I Would Like You To Do Us A Favor…
I had an
opportunity to learn from you
it is true these were unique
elections
I think I
should run more often
***
I would like you to do us a favor though
surround yourself with
people
nonsense ended
a lot of it started
Whatever you do, it’s important that you do it
We are ready to open a new page
***
I wanted to assure you
we are friends
***
A lot of people are talking
***
restore honesty
if you have
information it would
be very helpful to make sure that we
administer justice
***
thank you for your invitation
***
take my plane and go
The whole world was
upset
"I Would Like You To Do Us A Favor…" is an erasure poem that uses dialogue from the July 25th phone call between Donald Trump & Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Though the context and content of the call itself was/is nefarious and egregious, the text that remains below shows a conversation that seems not so nefarious and egregious: A collection of text any person might say; a conversation about growth, about physical health, or of concern about the world at large. Wouldn’t it be nice to have that type of individual at the helm instead of one who embodies narcissism and self-centeredness?
Poets Resist is published by Glass Poetry Press.
