The Mask We Live Becomes Masculine
On the third day,
in the third person,
I wrote about my rape.
I used the broken end
of a beer bottle
to hold the paper down.
Being a boy
nobody asked what
I was wearing.
I learned assault
runs down your leg
as you walk down the hall.
What violence breeds
I recognize as
an unnamed cousin.
This thing of being a man
is undefined
by force.
